2026 Nissan Leaf

2026 Nissan
Leaf

Over a decade ago, the Nissan Leaf broke new ground as the first mass-produced electric vehicle (EV) available in the U.S. Its breakthrough approach and affordability made all-electric driving accessible to a significant number of people concerned about their carbon footprint. The all-new third generation takes the venerable Leaf in a new direction, featuring crossover practicality, lightning-fast charging, and innovative technology. The cute and quirky Leaf of the past trades places with one that embraces a fully modern design, inside and out. Unsurprisingly, the new Leaf has styling inspired by its larger EV stablemate, the Ariya, with which it also shares a platform. However, with the Ariya leaving Nissan’s U.S. lineup after 2025, the new Leaf now serves as Nissan’s only EV here for 2026.

It’s spot on to call the 2026 Nissan Leaf completely reimagined. In addition to its significantly updated looks, it features a new thermal management system for improved battery efficiency. This technology, combined with an enhanced motor design, enables the five-passenger 2026 Nissan Leaf to deliver range of up to 303 miles.

Trims and Powertrains

The redesigned 2026 Leaf is available in three front-wheel-drive trims: S+, SV+, and Platinum+. They have a 75 kWh battery connected to a 160 kW motor that produces 214 horsepower. The range leader is the S+ with 303 miles of distance capability. The values change to 288 miles for the SV+ and 259 for the Platinum+.

Under peak Level 3/DC fast charging conditions, the 2026 Leaf’s battery can be restored from 10% to 80% in about 35 minutes. Nissan gave the third-generation Leaf a dual charging port configuration. The driver's side has a J1772 connection (for Level 1 and 2 charging), while the passenger's side has a NACS (North American Charging Standard) port (for Level 3/DC fast charging), opening up access to the Tesla Supercharger network. Plus, an available adapter provides access to vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, enabling the Leaf to power electronics and small appliances. The Platinum+ has a standard V2L connection in the cargo area. As for cargo capacity, the ‘26 Leaf offers 20 cubic feet of space behind the second row, expanding to 55.5 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded.

Standard Features

The well-equipped S+ has automatic climate control with rear footwell ducts, fabric upholstery, LED exterior lighting with automatic headlamps, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, and dual 12.3-inch widescreen displays (for instrumentation and infotainment). Its other noteworthy amenities include power side-view mirrors, sound-reducing windshield glass, two USB-C ports, and 18-inch steel wheels with aero covers.

The SV+ is improved with TailorFit leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, an eight-way power driver's seat, dual 14.3-inch widescreen displays, a cabin heat pump, side mirrors with integrated turn signals, rear-seat air-conditioning vents, regenerative braking paddles, a cargo organizer system, wireless device charging, two rear USB-C ports, and 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels. The upscale Platinum+ gets a fixed-panel glass roof, a heated steering wheel, a power liftgate, heated rear outboard seats, a driver's memory system, heated side mirrors with reverse tilt-down, upgraded taillights, roof rails, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a 120-volt outlet, multi-color ambient interior lighting, and 19-inch wheels.

Advanced Safety Technology

Every 2026 Leaf comes with a comprehensive suite of standard driver-assist features. These include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking (with pedestrian and cyclist detection), blind-spot warning with intervention, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. The list continues with a surround-view monitor, semi-autonomous ProPILOT Assist driving support, automatic high beams, driver attention alert, traffic sign recognition, and rear parking sensors. The SV+ and Platinum+ are upgraded with front parking sensors. Every trim receives airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, and a backup monitor.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The 2026 Nissan Leaf hosts a dual-screen dashboard display that incorporates the instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen into a single, wide panel. The displays are each 12.3 inches in the S+ trim and 14.3 inches in the SV+ and Platinum+. Both platforms have wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and access to 5G-compatible NissanConnect services. The SV+ and Platinum+ are enhanced with Google built-in features. Audio comes through a four-speaker system in the S+ and a six-speaker setup in the SV+. The Platinum+ moves up to a ten-speaker Bose setup, including headrest-mounted speakers in the front row.
