Trims, Powertrain, and Configurations
The 2026 Frontier is built in four trim packages: S, SV, PRO-X, and PRO-4X. The powertrain pairs a 3.8-liter V6 engine (output: 310 horsepower and 281 lb.-ft. of torque) with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The S and SV come standard with a rear-wheel drivetrain (RWD) but are available with four-wheel drive (4WD). The PRO-X comes only with RWD, while the PRO-4X is exclusively 4WD. All trims with RWD return an EPA-estimated 19 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. The S and SV achieve 17 mpg city/21 mpg highway with 4WD, while the PRO-4X drops slightly to 16 city/20 highway mpg.
The Crew Cab configuration seats five with a 60/40-split fold-up rear bench seat. It can be paired with the standard 5-foot bed on every trim, or with a 6-foot bed on the SV and PRO-4X. The S alone has a King Cab option, which seats four in folding 50/50 rear jump seats, and is paired only with the long bed. All Frontiers get an independent double-wishbone front suspension, with coil springs over shock absorbers and a stabilizer bar. The King Cab S rides atop a rigid axle leaf rear suspension over shock absorbers, while Crew Cab Frontiers add a rear stabilizer bar. The PRO-X and PRO-4X are trail-ready, equipped with Bilstein off-road performance shock absorbers. Although every Frontier comes with an active brake limited-slip differential, the PRO-4X upgrades to an electronic locking rear differential. The RWD S leads the lineup in towing, boasting a 7,160-pound limit with the King Cab/long bed configuration.
