The 2024 LEAF is offered in two trims: S and SV Plus. The power arrangement in the S consists of a 40-kWh battery and a 110-kW electric motor that produces 147 hp and 236 lb.-ft. of torque. The powertrain in the SV Plus is made up of a 60-kWh battery and a 160-kW motor making 214 hp and 250 lb.-ft. of torque.
The EPA-estimated range of the base S is 149 miles (or 123 MPGe city/99 MPGe highway), but with the SV Plus, you’ll be able to travel up to 212 miles (121 city/98 highway) before needing a recharge. The LEAF has a useful regenerative braking system, too, which captures and converts the kinetic energy created from braking into electric power to be stored in the battery.
When using a 240V power socket, a full charge will be achieved in around 7.75 hours with the S and 11 hours with the SV Plus. If the S is plugged into a 50-kW DC fast charger, it can acquire an 80 percent charge in approximately 40 minutes (60 mins. with the SV Plus). The SV Plus comes with a 100-kW high-output charging port that enables an 80 percent charge in only 45 mins.
The entry-level S is nicely equipped with the likes of proximity keyless entry, push-button start, automatic climate control, automatic headlights, power-adjustable side mirrors, a 7-inch information display, USB ports, and 16-inch steel wheels with covers. Cloth-upholstered seats (which are manually adjustable in the front row) offer a comfortable ride, while the 60/40-split rear seatback provides flexibility for both passengers and cargo.
The infotainment system has an 8-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration (Android Auto and Apple CarPlay), Bluetooth hands-free phone/audio streaming, SiriusXM satellite radio, voice recognition, a text messaging assistant, and a four-speaker audio system. The Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite is standard as well, enhancing the driving experience with forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, intelligent lane intervention, rear parking sensors with reverse automatic braking, and automatic high beams.
Besides getting the larger motor and battery, the SV Plus receives more upscale standard features. It boasts heated front seats, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated side mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, LED headlights, fog lights, and 17-inch alloy wheels. This trim’s multimedia array is enhanced with six speakers and access to NissanConnect remote vehicle services. SV Plus drivers can also experience semi-autonomous driving with the standard ProPILOT Assist technology. The Around View Monitor and driver attention monitoring are also added to the safety array.
