The quintet of 2023 Nissan Rogue’s trim choices consists of the S, SV, Midnight Edition, SL, and Platinum. A 201 hp turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine teams with the Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) with manual mode to form the capable powertrain. Front-wheel drive is the default, but most New England Rogue owners prefer the available all-wheel drive for maximum versatility. The EPA has estimated that FWD Rogues achieve 30 mpg in city driving and 37 mpg on the open road. The AWD rating changes to 28 city/35 highway.
The S trim has everything you need, with cloth seats, remote keyless entry, push-button ignition, LED headlights and daytime running lights, rear privacy glass, a 12-volt power outlet, a USB-A and a USB-C port, manually adjustable front seats, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat. The SV ramps things up with remote start, Nissan Intelligent Key (proximity entry), dual-zone automatic climate control, heated exterior mirrors with built-in turn-signal indicators, an additional pair of USB ports, illuminated vanity mirrors, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. The black-themed Midnight Edition has faux leather seats (heated in the front row), a dual-panel panoramic moonroof, rear window sunshades, a power liftgate, and a heated steering wheel wrapped in leather.
The SL goes back to the regular color scheme but gets some of the elevated equipment found on the Midnight Edition (except for the rear window sunshades), plus real leather seats, roof rails, reverse gear tilt-down exterior mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, another 12V outlet, a power-adjustable seat for the front passenger, position memory settings (for the driver’s seat and outside mirrors), and a cargo-area organizer. The Platinum suits those who love a loaded vehicle, as it has the rear-window sunshades, wireless phone charging, a hands-free liftgate, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, remote-folding rear seats, interior accent lighting, and the aforementioned quilted semi-aniline leather upholstery.
Nissan is known for its advances in driver-assist technology, and as such every 2023 Rogue gets the Safety Shield 360 suite among its standard equipment. All trims have automatic high beams, rear parking sensors, intelligent forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, and Intelligent Driver Alertness. ProPilot assist adaptive cruise control, intelligent lane intervention, and intelligent blind-spot intervention are added at the SV level. The SL and Platinum gain the Intelligent Around-View Monitor, but the Platinum alone gets front and side parking sensors, traffic sign recognition, and ProPilot Assist with Navi-link, including advanced mapping software to warn the driver as they’re approaching potential obstacles.
Nissan’s dedication to the latest tech features is obvious with its infotainment systems as well. The S has a well-rounded version with an 8-inch touchscreen, voice recognition, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth for hands-free phone and audio streaming, an audio system with four speakers, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The SV, Midnight Edition, and SL add another pair of speakers, plus NissanConnect remote vehicle services and a Wi-Fi hotspot. The Platinum not only advances to a 9-inch touchscreen – it also gets Amazon Alexa, wireless Apple CarPlay, navigation, SiriusXM Travel Link, and a top-shelf Bose sound system with a dual-driver woofer.
Nissan offers some optional equipment bundles crafted for specific trim levels. The SV Premium Package will add heated front seats and a heated steering wheel to the SV along with rooftop rails, rear sunshades, simulated-leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power liftgate, and a dual-panel panoramic moonroof. The SL trim’s version of the Premium Package contains the rear sunshades along with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, a hands-free liftgate, and automatic climate control with three zones. It also upgrades the multimedia system with a 9-inch touchscreen, the Bose sound system, integrated navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and SiriusXM Travel Link and adds to the driver-assist tech with ProPilot Assist with Navi-link, front and side parking sensors, and traffic sign recognition. The Platinum Premium Package furnishes a head-up display, tri-zone automatic climate control, and heated rear seats.
