The Pathfinder is made in a quintet of trim levels: S, SV, SL, Rock Creek, and Platinum. The Rock Creek has a standard pair of captain’s chairs in the second row, limiting seating to seven passengers. The other trims can fit eight with their second-row bench – although the SV, SL, and Platinum are eligible for the captain’s chairs as an option.
A 3.5-liter V6 engine provides 284 hp and 259 lb.-ft. of torque in all trims save for the Rock Creek, where it’s tuned to boost output to 295 hp and 270 lb.-ft. of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission completes the powertrain. Front-wheel drive is standard on all but the 4WD-only Rock Creek; all of the other trims are eligible for 4WD. The base S can tow as much as 3,500 pounds, whereas the remaining trims can handle up to 6,000 lb.
As the well-equipped base trim, the S gets tri-zone auto climate control, automatic LED headlights, rear privacy glass, Nissan Intelligent Key (proximity entry), push-button start, a 12V power outlet, four USB ports (two USB-A and two USB-C), a hidden underfloor storage compartment in the cargo area, and a third-row bench seat that splits 60/40 and folds flat. The SV gets even more: remote start, heated front seats, a power driver’s seat, another 12V outlet, rooftop rails, heated side mirrors with built-in turn-signal indicators, illuminated vanity mirrors, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
The SL adds the comfort of leather seats (although not for the third row) and conveniences such as wireless phone charging, a power liftgate, a power front passenger’s seat, rear sunshades, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, another USB-A port, and a heated steering wheel. The debuting Rock Creek swaps some luxury (including the power liftgate, leather, and heated steering wheel) in favor of its trail-ready features: all-terrain tires, an off-road suspension, LED fog lights, a tubular roof rack, a tow hitch receiver with a 7-pin wiring harness, second-row captain’s chairs, and, as mentioned, synthetic leather seats with trim-specific center panels and orange contrast stitching.
The Platinum is essentially equipped like the SL, but it gets the tow hitch receiver standard along with semi-aniline leather seats that have quilted inserts and are heated and ventilated in the front row and heated in the second row. Its other amenities are a head-up display, a digital gauge cluster, a panoramic moonroof, a hands-free liftgate, power-folding side mirrors with reverse gear tilt-down, a power tilt-and-telescopic steering column, interior accent lighting, a 120V power outlet, a total of four USB-A ports, rain-sensing windshield wipers, position memory settings (for the side mirrors, driver’s seat, and steering column), and stainless-steel kick plates.
Nissan has long been on the vanguard of active safety technology, and the Pathfinder has it all. The S gets a basic yet comprehensive version with automatic high beams, rear parking sensors, intelligent forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, reverse automatic braking, and intelligent driver alertness. ProPilot Assist adaptive cruise control, intelligent lane intervention, and intelligent blind-spot intervention are added at the SV level The Rock Creek gets the same array of driver-assist tech along with an intelligent around-view monitor with a special off-road mode to help with navigating the trails. The SL and Platinum come with an intelligent around-view monitor, front parking sensors, traffic sign recognition, and ProPilot Assist with Navi-link, an enhanced version of ProPilot Assist with mapping technologies that can foresee incidents on the road ahead.
The base infotainment system in the S trim has an 8-inch touchscreen, voice recognition, SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, and a sound system with six speakers. NissanConnect remote vehicle services and a Wi-Fi hotspot are added to the other trims. The SL and Platinum upgrade to a 9-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay while adding navigation and SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link. The Platinum alone gets a 13-speaker Bose sound system.
