2019 Nissan Pathfinder vs Competition

Overview

The 2019 Nissan Pathfinder has seating for seven across three rows and boasts more interior volume than the Honda Pilot, Ford Explorer, or Toyota Highlander. It also offers more standard safety features than ever before and has earned top safety ratings from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

The trim levels are S, SV, SL, and Platinum, with each offered in either two-wheel or four-wheel drive. Standard equipment on the base S includes tri-zone automatic climate control, SiriusXM Radio and Travel Link service with a free 3-year trial, and the NissanConnect information/entertainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen. The SV trim adds fog lights, remote start, and adaptive cruise control. The SL sweetens the standard equipment list with leather seats (heated in front), a motion activated hands-free liftgate, LED projector headlights, and both blind-spot and surround-view monitors. The top-of-the-line Platinum maxes out the list of luxuries with a Bose audio system, heated and cooled front seats, a tow-hitch receiver, and a dual-panel panoramic moonroof.

Safety Features

The list of safety equipment on the base trim now includes rear sonar, automatic emergency braking, and traction and stability control. On the SV trim and above, intelligent cruise control and rear cross-traffic alert also come standard. The SL and Platinum add a blind-spot monitor and surround-view monitor for a full view of obstacles within the vehicle’s surrounding area. The ’19 Pathfinder is also built with a full complement of air bags and a safety-enhanced structure: zone body construction with front and rear crumple zones, hood-buckling creases, steel door beams, and an energy-absorbing steering column all increase the safety of the occupants. There’s also a new standard rear-door alert system, which keeps drivers from forgetting that there’s a child or pet in the back row.

Technology

Communication features are crucial in any vehicle today, especially one that’s marketed to families. The ’19 Pathfinder has plenty of USB ports (six) and comes with Bluetooth capability and auxiliary audio and video jacks. The base audio system has AM/FM radio and a CD player with six speakers, but the 13-speaker Bose premium audio system with Acoustic Waveguide Technology is standard on the Platinum and available on the SL. The NissanConnect touch-screen display with an 8-inch screen comes standard on all trims, and Nissan Navigation is standard on all but the base trim.
